A Week in the Life: Restaurant Commercials, Corporate Video, and Music Video Production Across the Northeast

Some weeks in video production are nine-to-five and predictable. This was not one of those weeks.

In the span of a few days we were shooting corporate videos at multiple locations across Syracuse and throughout Ohio for Barrett Industries, a music video for Vievanessa in Beacon, NY, and a restaurant commercial for 1st Class Bagels in East Northport on Long Island. Back at the editing system, projects were cutting for 12 hours a day on top of the shooting days.

This is what video production actually looks like when a company is doing it right: varied, fast-moving, and spread across a geography that goes well beyond the local market.

Three Projects, Three Completely Different Videos

The Barrett Industries corporate video work is a good example of what industrial and corporate video production outside the studio looks like. Barrett is an aggregate and materials company with operations across multiple states. Getting their story on video means going where the work happens: quarry sites, job locations, operational facilities in upstate New York and Ohio. You don't control the environment, you don't control the light, and you have to work around an active operation while getting footage that actually looks good. That's a skill set that takes years to develop and can't be faked.

The 1st Class Bagels commercial is a completely different challenge. Restaurant commercial production on Long Island is all about making food look the way it actually tastes. Bagels are a specific product with a specific texture, a specific sheen, a specific moment right out of the oven where everything looks exactly right. You have maybe a few minutes to capture that before the steam disappears and the shot is gone. Lighting for food, working fast, knowing when you have it, that's the job.

Then there's Vievanessa in Beacon. Music video production in the Hudson Valley is one of the more creatively satisfying things we do. Working with an independent artist to translate their sound into a visual language, on location, with a limited crew and a tight window, is exactly the kind of project that keeps the work interesting.

We Travel. A Lot.

One thing worth noting for any business outside the immediate NY Tri-State area: we go where the project is. Corporate clients in particular often need production across multiple locations, and we've shot promotional and corporate video up and down the East Coast and beyond.
