Nonprofit Video Production: A Promotional Video for the Dravet Syndrome Foundation
This video is different from the fundraising work we've done for the Dravet Syndrome Foundation in the past. Where "Morgan's Story" was a personal narrative built around one family's experience, this project was a broader promotional piece about the foundation itself: its history, its mission, the research it funds, and the cumulative impact of the money raised over years of advocacy and events.
I'll say upfront: this is a client that means more to me than most. My son has Dravet Syndrome. So when the foundation comes to us with a project, we bring everything we have to it.
What a Nonprofit Promotional Video Actually Does
A promotional video for a foundation or nonprofit organization serves a different purpose than a fundraising appeal. The goal isn't to move a room of donors in a single evening, it's to give the organization a durable, shareable asset that explains who they are and why they matter to anyone who encounters it: potential donors, researchers, media, partner organizations, families newly diagnosed who are trying to understand what resources exist.
For the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, that meant covering a lot of ground: the history of how the foundation was established, the specific research initiatives being funded, the total dollars raised to date and where that money goes, and the human stakes of the work. Dravet Syndrome is a rare, severe form of epilepsy that affects roughly 1 in 15,700 people. It's treatment-resistant, lifelong, and carries risks that go well beyond seizures. The foundation is one of the primary funding sources for research aimed at better treatments and, eventually, a cure. That story deserves to be told clearly, compellingly, and in a way that gives the organization something it can use for years.
The Promotional Video Format for Nonprofits
A well-produced nonprofit promotional video typically runs three to five minutes, long enough to cover the organization's mission and impact with depth, short enough to hold a viewer's attention on a website or social media platform. It combines interviews with leadership and key stakeholders, archival footage or photography where available, motion graphics for statistics and research milestones, and a clear narrative arc that takes the viewer from "here's the problem" to "here's what we're doing about it" to "here's how you can help."
The Dravet Syndrome Foundation video follows that structure, and it gives the organization a centerpiece asset that works across their website, their social channels, donor outreach, and any media or partnership conversations where they need to quickly communicate who they are and what they've accomplished.
